WEI WELCOMES BECKY LOUREY to the Board of Directors.

Former State Senator, Becky Lourey was elected to the Minnesota House of Representatives in 1990 and, after being re-elected to two additional terms, she ran successfully for the Minnesota Senate in 1996 where she served two terms. While in the Senate, she served as Chair of the Senate Health and Family Security Committee and is recognized as a health care expert and environmental & peace activist. Becky also brings expertise as a successful small business owner, writer, farmer, and mother of twelve children. “It is NOW because we can't wait any longer.

Dr. Jacquelyn N. Zita Awarded University of Minnesota's Community Service Award

Jacquelyn Zita who serves as WEI's volunteer Director of Operations and Education received the U of M Community Service Award for her outstanding work in developing and supporting the Women's Environmental Institute at Amador Hill. This is a very prestigious award and marks a long-deserved recognition. Professor Zita (Ph. D. Philosophy) teaches a number of environmental, health, and theory courses in the Department, including Biology of Women, Feminist Theory and Method, and Ecofeminism and Environmental Justice.

Kitchen-table activism

The Women’s Environmental Institute hopes to educate, mobilize &
affect change with pointed questions about toxins in our neighborhoods,
homes and food.

Follow a thin dirt road up a well-shaded hill. A dense undergrowth of
emerald ferns fans to the left and right. Look closely. Deer dot the
scene. Ahead, the road peaks, the trees fall away and the sun beckons.
Leave the woods behind and break into a clearing.
