This ten week lecture, discussion, and field course on organic food production will provide information on organic food and agriculture from environmental, social, and historical perspectives. Participants will have the opportunity to develop practical skills in organic horticulture through hands on workshops at the WEI alternative farm campus and farm field trips.
Join us for lectures and discussion with a variety of speakers on Monday evenings from 6:00 p.m.- 8:00 p.m., June 9th through August 18th (excluding July 7th) at Open Book (1011 Washington Ave S # 301, Minneapolis, MN 55415).
Several field workshop sessions will be taught at the WEI farm that will provide experience with soil and compost; greenhouse management; identifying and mitigating weeds and pests; tools and machinery; harvest, post- harvest handling, and food safety; and growing apples. Certificate Program: Complete the whole course (90% of lectures and a selection of workshops or field trips) and earn a Women’s Environmental Institute Certificate in Beginning Organic Farming.
Work Study: For every 5 hours you work at the WEI farm, $10 of your tuition cost will be refunded to you. Learn by doing, and save money!
Drop Ins: Can’t commit to every class and workshop? Drop-ins are welcome for all class sessions. Cost is $20 at the door for each lecture session and $10 for each workshop or field trip. If you plan on dropping in, you don’t need to register.
