WEI FARM PROGRAM First Quarter 2008 Update:
NORTH CIRCLE PROJECT Following up on the completion of a first draft of the feasibility study, a series of four meetings were held to share the project and our ideas with local community members. These meetings were very well-attended and were an excellent source of positive feedback and community support. Our next steps are continuing to build community support through outreach and meetings with individuals who have identified themselves as interested in supporting the North Circle Project. We are also actively pursuing funding for the processing facility and certified kitchen construction project through several different grant proposals. For more information about the North Circle Project contact Katie at 651-583-0705 or email northcircle<AT>w-e-i.org.
2008 COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA) FARM: Membership shares are still available for the 2008 CSA farm season, but we are filling up fast so be sure to sign up as soon as possible and no later than June 1, 2008. We have attended several fairs and conventions to advertise the CSA and we have more coming up, so check out the WEI events calendar for more information on where and when to find us. Also, as part of our food justice mission we are partnering with the Emergency Foodshelf Network on a program, Harvest for the Hungry, that will distribute food from CSA farms to low income families. For more information on this season’s CSA farm and the Harvest for the Hungry, click here. Currently we are advertising for 2008 Farm Interns. For more information, contact Tria at wei@w-e-i.org or call 651-583-0705..
ORGANIC FARM SCHOOL Preparations for the 2008 Organic Farm School are under way. This year farm school will be held on Monday nights starting June 9. Curriculum for this year is still being developed and we are taking comments from last year into account and planning lots of changes, so even if you attended OFS last year you may want to come to class again this year! For more information about OFS contact Katie at 651-583-0705 or email northcircle<AT>w-e-i.org.
