Dear WEI CSA members,
For the first time ever, WEI is offering bread and cookie shares to complement your veggie and fruit boxes. We’ve teamed up with a local baker, Cecilia Coulter from Lindstrom, MN, who will be baking unique, whole grain breads every week. No two weeks will be the same!
The breads and cookies are made with certified organic flours, some made from freshly milled grains (Cecilia owns her own mill and roller) including barley, buckwheat, oats, Kamut, spelt, flax, quinoa, millet, corn, and, of course, wheat. In addition, the breads are sweetened with local MN honey, and contain sea salt and as many organic ingredients as are available to the baker during a particular week. The breads have no preservatives, no soy products, no high-fructose corn syrup, no partially hydrogenated oils, no colorants. Each loaf weighs approximately 1lb 8oz.
The cookies are also made with organic grains and flours, organic raisins (when applicable), local MN honey and 100% butter. The cookies will weigh approximately 2oz and there will be 6 in a package each week.
Bread Share = $90 for 18 weeks
Cookie Share= $90 for 18 weeks
The cost of either share is $90 for the 18 weeks. You may choose both shares -- cookies and bread -- for $160 for 18 weeks. We will deliver these shares with your regular CSA box delivery at your drop site.
The number of bread and cookie shares is limited this year to 40, so, if interested, order early to guarantee fresh-baked, unique, local breads and/or cookies every week during this growing season.
Contact WEI today to reserve your share. You may send a check with a note detailing your order to: WEI, P.O. Box 128, North Branch, MN 55056. We regret that we will not be able to accept online orders for Bread and Cookie Shares.
About our Baker: Cecilia Coulter
Cecilia has decades of experience baking for her family and for several farmers markets in Chisago County, MN and Polk County, WI. She has had private cooking instruction from a restaurant chef in Rome, Italy, and has taken cooking classes in Rome as well. She lent us a hand in building our brick oven in which we hope she will bake some of the loaves later in the season!
Coffee & Tea Shares, anyone?
This season, we have made a new connection with a local Coffee Shop owner who says he could provide us with coffee and tea shares from a woman-owned fair trade company -- Feminina. We would like to see how many people would be interested in such a thing – please contact us via e-mail (wei@w-e-i.org) or phone (651-583-0705) and let us know if you would like more information on a collaboration of this kind.
Watch also for possible Organic Sunrise Flour options for our CSA members. More news on this forthcoming.
